Took a look around on a cold (free) day. Yeah, it’s free admission on most weekdays through the winter!
There is a lot going on with plants during the cold months.

Walk Through Downtown

Walking through downtown Manhattan on a wet day I found these. Seems the black locusts do not dropping their seed pods so prodigiously as the honeys.

Central Park Zoo Colors

I took advantage of a wet day at Central Park Zoo, which allowed me time to look around and see what had fallen to the ground. And what was still hanging on to a stem. It was a colorful day, as usual.

Oaks

Oaks have variable leaf shapes, even on the same tree. Leaves that grow in the shade can be larger and broader than those that grow in full sun of the canopy (sun leaves), which can be smaller and more deeply lobed.
Perhaps we have an eastern white oak here (Quercus alba), and a chestnut oak (Quercus montana).

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving... okay, so the strawberry isn’t the same color from one picture to the next.
This member of the Rosaceae family is technically not a fruit, as it does not form from the plant’s ovaries. The strawberry in a false fruit, which is derived from the peg that holds the ovaries.
